To protect, conserve and enhance the Province's environment through the management of water resources, the environmental assessment of undertakings and the control and management of substances and activities that may pollute the environment.

  Pollution Prevention

The mandate of the Pollution Prevention Division is to prevent and mitigate the adverse environmental effects of industrial activity, pesticide usage, hazardous products storage and handling, and the generation and disposal of solid and liquid wastes. This is accomplished through: monitoring industrial emissions and effluent; establishing and enforcing compliance agreements; licensing and training of pesticide applicators and the general public, the adoption of the concept of integrated waste management; and in the approval of innovative contaminated site remediation technology.

  Water Resources

The objective of the Water Resources Division is to administer various Acts as they relate to the allocation of water, stream alterations, protection of water supply areas, licensing of well drillers and other aspects of water resource management.

Our mission is to ensure that development proceeds in an environmentally acceptable manner.
