This division is responsible for the developing, designing and conducting strategic science projects in support of science-based decision-making relating to provincial sustainable development issues.
The division provides high quality knowledge on which to base decisions, and helps to sustain environmental resources, and promote social and economic growth now and in the future.
The recent decline in the island’s woodland caribou population is a major sustainable development issue for the province, as it has environmental, economic and social implications. As a result, the Caribou Strategy has been generated in order to scientifically address the issue and gain a better understanding of the contributing factors at work, and be in a position to make a more informed and defensible decision with respect to the decline.
Clients include: federal and provincial departments; stakeholders; organizations; academics; community and industry.
