Responsibilities

The Sustainable Development and Strategic Science Branch is responsible for the following divisions:

The Branch’s responsibility is to establish and maintain a societal commitment to sustainable development so that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians can enjoy a clean, naturally diverse environment and a more prosperous economy while maintaining our cultural integrity.

Each division promotes wise and cooperative stewardship of our natural resources through strategic scientific research which is essential for empirically based decision-making in all sectors including policy, administration and legislation.

Services

The Branch leads the development and implementation of the NL Sustainable Development Strategy; coordinates interdepartmental interests, and provides support to conflict resolution; provides a portal of information and contacts to streamline decisions and processes; and uses strategic science in evaluating sustainable development issues

Clients

Clients include: federal and provincial departments; stakeholders; organizations; academics; community and industry.
