Project Description:
The proponent proposes to construct a Regional Waste Management Facility (RWMF) in the vicinity of the current Frenchman’s Cove dumpsite, which is situated on Route 220 approximately 0.7 kilometres northeast of the intersection of Route 213 and Route 220 on the Burin Peninsula. The 136 hectare site can be accessed by an existing road off Route 220. The RWMF will consist of an administration building; weigh scale and scale house; metals storage; transfer station; household hazardous waste storage building; public drop-off area; construction and demolition waste storage; composting facility; and maintenance garage. Construction of the facility is scheduled to start in 2011, with operations expected to begin in late 2012 or early 2013.
