This province-wide educational program was developed with the partnership and cooperation of the Department of Education and the Parks and Natural Areas Division, and it focuses on outdoor, hands-on science learning activities that address the curriculum needs of Grades 1 - 6. Activities range from Habitats, Diversity of Life, Rocks, Minerals and Erosion, Weather, Properties of Living Things, etc, to name a few. The concept is to get students and teachers into protected areas (these are natural, living environments) and discover scientific principles and concepts in the outdoors through a well developed curriculum.
The program is offered free of cost. Upon contacting the interpreter, a curriculum objective and student activity sheet/s will be sent (faxed) to the instructor for each participating class by the park/reserve interpretive naturalist. The park/reserve interpretive naturalist will facilitate the activities on site.
Due to the high demand from schools, we recommend that you contact the nearest Provincial Park or Reserve (see list below) to make bookings. The interpreter will provide the instructor with additional information and will discuss themes and curriculum objectives requested.
This Program will run from September 16th until October 21st 2009.
