Wildlife Week

We’re wild about Newfoundland and Labrador’s wildlife and habitat; so much so, we dedicate an entire week every year to celebrate it with you.

National Wildlife Week opens new window (NWW) is a program of the Canadian Wildlife Federation, sponsored in partnership with provincial and territorial governments, the Canadian Museum of Nature, Environment Canada, Natural Resources Canada, Parks Canada, and Scouts Canada.

Proclaimed by an act of Parliament in 1947, NWW is observed annually during the week of April 10, the birthday of Jack Miner, opens new window one of the founders of Canada’s conservation movement.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, the Wildlife Division celebrates NWW by inviting the public to share in our love of Newfoundland and Labrador’s wildlife and special places. We work with Salmonier Nature Park to organize outreach activities in the province’s schools, and welcome visitors to a series of talks highlighting the range of research and conservation initiatives underway in our province.
